Bangkok (Urdu Point Latest News. July 16, 2023) Javelin thrower Mohammad Yasir Sultan of Pakistan won the bronze medal in the Asian Athletics Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. He achieved this feat with a career best throw of 79.93 meters. Japan's Roderick Genki Dean won the gold and silver medals with a throw of 83.15 meters and India's Manu Devarkeshwari Prakash with a throw of 81.01 meters respectively.
This was Pakistan's first and only medal in the ongoing event. Earlier, Pakistan's Shajar Abbas failed to qualify for the 200m final on Saturday. He finished third in his heat with a time of 21.04 seconds during the semifinals. However, the last player to qualify for the final had a timing of 20.99.
The top two and next two fastest from each of the three heats qualified for the final.
That same day, during the first round, Abbas finished the 200 meters in 21.06 seconds – seventh out of 36 runners – and finished second in the fifth heat to qualify for the semi-finals. On the other hand, another Pakistani sprinter Abdul Moeed Baloch failed in the 200 heat as he finished fifth in 21.86 seconds.
