June 7, 2023) Former captain Wasim Akram has made a shocking revelation regarding his retirement from international cricket, saying that at that time the Chairman PCB did not approve him. During an interview, 57-year-old Wasim Akram said that he still has the ability to continue playing cricket, but the constant dropping from the team forced him to retire.

Wasim Akram revealed that '2 years before my international retirement I was asked to retire from Red Ball cricket, though I continued to play ODIs for two more years'. The left-arm fast bowler added that despite his excellent performance, the cricket board dropped him from the national squad after the 2003 World Cup.

When asked about his decision to play county cricket after the World Cup, Wasim Akram said that he signed up with Hampshire to showcase his skills to the PCB.

The left-arm fast bowler added, “I stopped playing Tests 2 years ago, in the first first-class match, Hampshire bowled me 28 overs on the first day. As a result, I was unable to walk for three days".

Wasim Akram, known as the king of swing, left an indelible mark by taking 414 wickets in Tests and 502 wickets in ODIs.
